Canada election results: Newmarket–Aurora

Global News is projecting Liberal incumbent Tony Van Bynen getting re-elected in Newmarket–Aurora.

The Newmarket–Aurora riding is comprised of the town of Newmarket, north Aurora and part of East Gwillimbury. It borders the electoral districts of Aurora–Oak Ridges–Richmond Hill, King–Vaughan, York–Simcoe and Markham–Stouffville.

Van Bynen won this riding in 2019. He previously served as Newmarket’s mayor from 2006 to 2018. Van Bynen beat the Conservative Party’s Lois Brown, who served as the riding’s MP from 2008 to 2015.

Since the riding formed in 2004, it’s gone back and forth between Conservative and Liberal leadership.
