UPDATE: On June 22, 2021, police provided an update on their investigation. They said the victim was 36 years old and an autopsy concluded that “a crushing injury to the chest” caused his death. Police said homicide detectives continue to investigate.
The Edmonton Police Service’s Homicide Section has taken over the investigation looking into the death of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on the city’s north side Friday afternoon.
Police said officers were called to a collision in the area of 129 Avenue and 126 Street at about 1 p.m. Paramedics tried to save the male pedestrian’s life when they arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police originally said the driver of a vehicle at the scene was co-operating with investigators, but on Friday night, a police spokesperson said “subsequent witness reports indicated that a dark-coloured truck struck the pedestrian and then sped away.”
“Police are hoping to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or may have observed a truck fleeing the area of 129 Avenue and 126 Street around 1 p.m. today,” the EPS said in a news release.
Police said investigators are also asking for anyone who may have dashcam or home security video that could help in their investigation to contact them by calling 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
