MONTREAL – Friends say that for about five years, Tara Pompetti was involved in a very volatile relationship with Juan-Carlos Sandoval-Candanedo, but last month, Pompetti decided to end it – with tragic results.
On Friday, police said the ex-boyfriend did the unthinkable: he allegedly stabbed her while she slept.

“I never thought he would do something like that,” talent agent Hugo Miranda told Global News.
Miranda runs BYG Entertainment, a modelling agency that employs Pompetti.
Miranda said he was aware of the couple’s problems, and of Sandoval-Candanedo’s apparent inability to move on.
“In his mind, he was still with her. But in her mind it was clear they were not together. She moved out. She changed apartment,” Miranda said.

“He kept calling her his fiancee.”
On Friday, police said the 32-year-old suspect broke into the young woman’s apartment on Chailly Street in St-Leonard, and repeatedly stabbed her and her companion.

The 25-year-old remains in hospital in critical but stable condition. Her friend Alex Resilard-Mathieu’s injuries are considered not as serious.

Juan-Carlos Sandoval-Candanedo made a brief court appearance Monday.
His lawyer informed the judge his client would be making a request for bail on Friday. The suspect is facing six charges, including two counts of attempted murder.
Crown prosecutor Matthew Ferguson plans to oppose the request.
According to court documents obtained by Global News, Sandoval-Candanedo was charged with assaulting Pompetti in December 2011. These charges were later dropped.
As for Pompetti’s condition, there are encouraging signs. Her sister posted an update on her condition on Facebook, writing: “She’s healing well.”
