RCMP were called to a townhouse complex at 12730 66 Avenue near 127 Street around 9 p.m.

A woman suffered critical injuries, a man sustained serious injuries, and a two-year-old child suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said.

All three were rushed to hospital where the woman later died.
The suspect fled the scene but was located nearby and arrested by police.
Police said early indications suggest this is a case of family violence and all involved are known to each other.

Cpl. Elenore Sturko said anytime a child is involved in violence like this it strikes at the core.

“There is something that brings it home when we see family violence and when there are children involved,” she said. “This is very hurtful to police and the community and people waking up to this news are impacted by what’s happened.”

Sturko added a lot of work has been done over recent years to try and remove the stigma around reporting family and domestic violence to police.

However, many people often don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors,” she added.
