Gord Bamford, Dean Brody top CCMA Awards nominee list

TORONTO — Alberta’s Gord Bamford tops the list of nominees at this year’s Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards with seven nods, including Album of the Year and Single of the Year.

The Lacombe native is also up for CMT Video of the Year, Songwriter, Record Producer, Male Artist and the CCMA Fans’ Choice Award.

Bamford’s fifth album, Is It Friday Yet?, was released last year.

Hot on his heels is B.C.’s Dean Brody, who has five nominations including Single, Songwriter, Male Artist and Fans’ Choice.

The two country music stars are competing for the Fans’ Choice award with George Canyon, Terri Clark and Johnny Reid.

Country rock singer Dallas Smith of Langley, B.C. is a contender in three categories, including Male Artist.

Female Artist of the Year nominees are Terri Clark, Jaida Dreyer, Kira Isabella, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Michelle Wright.

Emerson Drive, Hey Romeo, High Valley, Small Town Pistols and The Stellas are competing in the Group or Duo category.

The full list of nominations, which was unveiled Wednesday morning, is available on the CCMA website.

The CCMA Awards will be handed out at Rexall Place in Edmonton on Sept. 8 featuring performances by Emerson Drive, Dallas Smith and The Band Perry.
