Calgary police say the mother of a newborn baby found alone in the community of Ogden on Thursday has been located, and the baby is being cared for by protective services.
The baby was found in a box and covered with a blanket in the area of Ogmoor Crescent and 76 Avenue S.E. shortly before 5 p.m. by a woman out walking her dog, police said.
According to a news release, the baby — who was “up to a few days old” — was taken to hospital by paramedics in stable condition.
Initially, police were asking for the public’s help to find the baby’s mother. On Friday morning, police released an update saying the mother had since been located and is “receiving required supports.”
Police said the baby is healthy, and as the matter is “not considered criminal in nature,” no additional details will be released.
“We understand that this is a concerning incident,” Staff Sgt. John Guigon said.
“We ask that anyone who finds themselves in a situation where they cannot care for a child, call 211 to be connected to community and social supports.”
