Possible facelift for Saskatoon neighbourhood

SASKATOON – Despite being located a hop, skip and a jump away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown core, Randy Pshebylo has always been enamoured by how remarkably quaint the community of Riversdale has remained.

That prompted him to stand firmly behind a campaign that may potentially give some buildings in the neighbourhood a facelift.

“Even the little things like paint, it’s something like the accessories on a dress or a neck tie or things like that, that make the outfit complete,” he said.

Saskatoon and Prince Albert are the only two Saskatchewan entries in the Main Street Matters campaign put on by Benjamin Moore.

Through online voting, members of the public will be able to choose from 100 cities across North America. That list will then be whittled down to 20 and those finalists will have restorative work done to improve the aesthetic appeal of their main streets.

“If you go way back, it’s one of the first original main streets in Saskatoon and that’s what really clicked for me,” said Rick Pillon, who nominated a portion of the Riversdale community for the campaign.

Voters will have until the end of June to make their voices heard.
