According to officers, the incident is isolated and there is no threat to public safety.

Road closures were in place for safety reasons, but the roads have since reopened to traffic, police say.

South Bruce OPP Const. Kevin Martin said he can’t disclose exactly what happened for “operational reasons.”

“The fact of the matter is we send a response that is going to have the safest possible resolution,” Martin told Global News. “What happened this morning caused a fairly significant response just in the interest of safety.”

Ryan Greig, a local Tara ward councillor, took to social media to reassure the public.

“The OPP has resolved the issue peacefully,” Greig said in a Facebook post. “They are hopeful to be cleared out in time for today’s funeral arrangements in Invermay and the Legion.”

According to Martin, the person who was taken into custody was arrested without incident and no one was injured as a result of what happened.

“Right now, this investigation is ongoing,” Martin said.

A hold-and-secure was issued for Arran-Tara Elementary School, but it’s since been lifted, according Jamie Pettit, a communications officer with the Bluewater District School Board.

Officers say anyone with information can contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
