22-year-old man charged after mosque vandalized twice in Owen Sound, Ont.

A man is facing charges after police say a mosque in Owen Sound, Ont., was vandalized on two consecutive days last week.

Police say food items, including eggs, were thrown at the Owen Sound Muslim Association mosque in the early morning hours of Thursday and Friday.

They say investigators reviewed security video and other evidence at the scene and searched two vehicles and a home.

A 22-year-old man is charged with two counts of mischief to religious property related to the mosque and one of mischief under $5,000 in connection with vandalism to an east-end restaurant.

The suspect is due in court for a bail hearing today.

The incidents at the mosque prompted dozens of community members to stand guard at the building over the weekend.
