Residents of Winnipeg’s West End woke up to smoke from a house fire on Monday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) said the blaze started in a garage immediately behind a vacant home on McGee Street, near the 500 block of Agnes Street, around 8:20 a.m.
The fire was extinguished 25 minutes later, but the garage was completely destroyed, WFPS said.
The house on the same property, as well as both neighbouring houses, were damaged by smoke, fire and water, as were two other nearby houses.
No injuries were reported, and neighbours were evacuated as a precaution by WFPS while the fire was being put out.
No damage estimates are available, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire crews were also kept busy in the early morning hours in the River East area, tackling a blaze at a two-storey home on Uxbridge Road South.
The cause of that fire is under investigation, but isn’t believed to be suspicious. The three people living in the house managed to escape before fire crews arrived.
