The train was travelling between Nantes and Lac-Mégantic in the Estrie region of Quebec and was carrying dry cargo, said Krepski.
The derailment happened near Highway 161 — blocking traffic for several hours on Saturday morning until the train was rerailed and resumed its route.
The train and rails involved in the incident belong to Central Maine and Quebec Railway, the company that took ownership of Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway which was involved in the 2013 Lac-Mégantic disaster that killed 47 and destroyed much of the town.
July 6 marked the sixth anniversary of the tragedy.
