Const. Phil Gavin told reporters emergency crews were called to the residence at around 8 p.m. on Thursday with reports of a shooting. When they arrived, three Brock students in their 20s were found with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Two people were suffering from what were determined at the time to be non-life-threatening stab injuries,” he said.

Police initially reported the third victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot with a pellet gun. In an update released early Friday, Gavin said the student was not shot and that he was injured during a “struggle.”

Gavin said the three men were taken to a local hospital and released a few hours later.

An ORNGE air ambulance spokesperson told Global News paramedics were called to the scene at around 8 p.m., but were cancelled as of 8:15 p.m.

Even though it’s early in the investigation, Gavin said “this wasn’t a random act” and that there was some level of targeting. He said there is no threat to public safety in relation to the incident.

Police said two suspects were seen leaving the campus in a car. As of Friday, no one was arrested in connection with the stabbings. An eyewitness told Global News security personnel were inspecting vehicles leaving the university.

The first suspect was described by police as possibly being in his 20s and having a slim build. He was last seen wearing a dark toque and clothing as well as a mask over his lower face.

The second suspect was described as possibly being in his 20s and having a slim build. He was last seen wearing lighter colour clothing and possibly grey pants.

Gervan Fearon, president of Brock University, said school officials have received assurances the campus is safe.

“We also have a number of staff members available to students to be able to provide any assistance they might need,” he said.

Officials said students near the scene of the incident who might be impacted will be able to stay in alternate accommodations for the night.

Classes will resume at the campus on Friday.
