One man is in custody and another is on the lam in connection with a violent robbery involving a golf club.
Police say a man, 58, was visiting a friend at an apartment building on Richmond Street at roughly 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18. As he exited a unit, police say he was assaulted by two men — one with a golf club — who came out of an adjacent apartment.
The suspects are said to have demanded the victim’s wallet, hit him in the face with the golf club, and fled on foot.
The victim sustained serious injuries but has since been released from hospital.
“The seriousness of the injuries and the propensity for such violence is alarming,” said Det. Sgt. Ryan Scrivens.
“We are appealing for the public’s assistance, in hopes of identifying the outstanding assailant.”
A London man, 31, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance.
Police are still looking for a second suspect and describe him as a white man between 28 and 30 years of age with short brown hair, a mustache, and full beard. At the time, he was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information in relation to this incident is urged to contact police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
