Durham Regional Police say an 18-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of another man in Oshawa’s east end.
Police said they responded to a call at a home on Langford Street around 7:30 p.m., near Townline Road North and Adelaide Avenue East, on Wednesday.
Police said a 21-year-old man, identified as Ahmed Buttu of Oshawa, was found with obvious signs of trauma and pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident itself took place inside the residence. It’s believed that is where the victim did reside,” Const. George Tudos said.
Police said they don’t believe the incident was a random act. A post-mortem has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
“Investigators have told me that they don’t believe this was a random act. So that would suggest that it was motivated somehow. However we can’t speak to those details as this will be before the courts,” Tudos said.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Khan of Whitby, faces one count of second-degree murder.
The death is Durham Region’s second homicide of 2019.
