Man arrested in connection with New Year’s Day gunfire outside Calgary night club

Calgary police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a shooting outside a Calgary night club on New Year’s Day.

Officers were called to the Vault 17 VIP lounge at about 2:50 a.m. on Jan. 1 after receiving a number of reports of shots being fired in the parking lot.

When police arrived, however, there were no witnesses to speak to. Officers said there was evidence in the parking lot that a shooting had happened.

“On Friday, Feb. 22, a warrant was executed on a residence in the 1100-block of 10 Street S.W.,” a police news release said Monday. “One man was arrested and items believed to be connected to the shooting and drug trafficking were seized.”

Abdirahman Kadar Ibrahim, 35, has been charged with various firearms, drug and property crime offences.
