It’s been 11 long, cold days for Edmontonians. Since Feb. 1, 2019, we’ve failed to get through 24 hours without dipping to -20 C or lower.
Using -20 C as the measure, the last time Edmonton weather was this cold for this long was in January of 1998. Starting Jan. 1, temperatures reached -20 C daily for 15 days in a row.
Jesse Beyer, Global Edmonton’s Chief Meteorologist, said Edmonton’s record could be beat this week. The cold is expected to stay around for at least the next seven days.
“It’s not unheard of cold; it’s just a long stretch,” Beyer said.
The warmest Edmonton has seen in February was a high of -14.01 C and the coldest recorded temperature of 2019 was -32.8 C on Feb. 8.
