Toronto police have identified Oshawa native Jonathan Gayle-West as the victim of a homicide after he was found with apparent gunshot wounds in a vehicle that crashed off a road in the city’s west end Wednesday evening.
Emergency crews were called to Islington Avenue near St. Andrews Boulevard, north of Dixon Road, at around 6:20 p.m.
A Toronto Paramedic Services spokesperson referred questions about the victim, who died at the scene, to police.
Officers said the homicide squad was called in to take over the investigation.
Twenty-nine-year-old Gayle-West was an employee with Canadian sports network TSN, which honoured him on Thursday both on social media and in broadcast. Gayle-West worked on programs such as Jay & Dan, BarDown and TSN 1050.
“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” the network tweeted.
Others took to social media to share their condolences as well.
“Jon Gayle had an infectious personality. Dude was always beaming. Like always …,” tweeted TSN’s Nabil Karim.
“This isn’t just another statistic. This is Jon Gayle,” tweeted TSN’s Jennifer Hedgers.
