Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the Banff National Park region on Friday morning. Parts of central Alberta, including the Red Deer and Drumheller areas, were added to the warning on Friday afternoon.
Ten to 15 centimetres of snow is expected in the regions under the warnings through the night Friday and into Saturday morning.
“Higher terrain near Lake Louise and on Highway 93 will see an additional 10 to 15 centimetres before Saturday morning,” the statement said.
Where exactly the heaviest snowfall amounts will be remained uncertain on Friday afternoon, according to Environment Canada. As such, the weather agency said the warnings could be expanded as the system moves through Alberta.
Frost advisories were also in place Friday for parts of northern Alberta.
