Residents in Sicamous and Mara Lakes will get a drinking-water treatment plant thanks to some funding from the federal and provincial governments.
The $4.5 million facility will help protect water quality following some significant flooding last June when about 350 area residents were evacuated from their homes as a result of the flash flooding.
Sicamous residents will pay about $1.5 million for the facility, and the remainder of the tab will be picked up by the federal and provincial governments.
Residents with weakened immune systems are still being asked to boil their water before drinking it.
