A 31-year-old man from Barrie is facing charges after police say he failed to remain at the scene of a collision.

According to Barrie police, on Wednesday just after 2 a.m., officers were called to the Sovereign’s Gate area in Barrie’s south end after receiving a report that a driver had hit a parked car and fled the scene.

Police say the driver struck a parked car, sending it 20 metres up the street and onto the curb.

Officers say, as a result, there was significant damage to the driver’s side of the parked vehicle.

According to police, the loud noise prompted neighbours to run outside to see what happened.

Police say neighbours located the driver and second vehicle with obvious damage parked down the street. When witnesses approached to speak to the driver and passenger, the car drove off.

Officers say witnesses watched the vehicle as it drove around the corner and into a driveway on Spencer Drive.

When police arrived, they were able to follow a groove in the pavement made by the rim of the suspect vehicle which extended from the scene, to the home on Spencer Drive where the car was parked.

Officers say the driver and his passenger were located inside the house.

According to police, the 31-year-old driver from Barrie was arrested and has been charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and two counts of breach of probation.

Police say the accused was held for a bail hearing.
