Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea is not prepared to rule out receiver Weston Dressler for Friday’s week 10 match-up against the Ottawa RedBlacks just yet.

Dressler was injured in last week’s victory against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Following a closed practice on Wednesday, O’Shea stated he’d wait until the last possible moment before making a decision on Dressler’s status.

“Like all these veteran guys that don’t need to practice, I’ll give him right to the last ditch minute. What’s that? 24 hours before, before I make a decision,” O’Shea said.

“I’m not going to rule him out until we have to send the roster in and I talk to him again tomorrow.”

“They see the therapist every morning, and every night, and every morning, and every night. We make progress and we make the best decision for the team at that point.”

If Dressler can’t go, and that appears to be the case, then receiver/returner Ryan Lankford will likely check into the lineup in his absence. The 26-year-old played in the first regular season game of the season but has been on the practice roster ever since.

“He’s always working,” O’Shea said. “He understands the crappy part of the business and manages to put in great effort all day, every day.”

Despite sitting him out for their last seven games the head coach still likes what Lankford brings to the table. He dressed in 15 games last season where he had 260 yards receiving with three receiving touchdowns.

“He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do,” O’Shea said. “He had an amazing training camp. He’s a hell of a returner. He’s a very good pro. So we would feel comfortable if that’s the direction we have to go.”
