2 Saskatoon men charged with arson after rash of fires

Two men are facing arson charges following a rash of fires reported to Saskatoon police.

Multiple fires were reported in the area of Temperance Street and McKinnon Avenue North in the Varsity View neighbourhood at roughly 1:30 a.m. CT on July 24. Five fires were found in recycling and garbage bins in a back alley.

During the investigation, police learned of another fire, this one involving a vehicle, in the 400-block of Leslie Avenue.

Officers spotted two men in the area who matched the suspects’ descriptions from the initial report. Police said both were arrested and had multiple lighters on them.

The two men, 24 and 25, are facing 12 arson-related charges. The 25-year-old is also charged with breach of an undertaking and breach of probation.

Police said additional charges are pending.
