Vancouver police are on the hunt for a man accused of targeting a series of women by exposing and touching himself at the windows of their homes and businesses in Mount Pleasant.

Police say the string of indecent acts all happened between midnight and 1 a.m., either on Main Street near E 15th Avenue, or a block away on Quebec Street.

According to police, in each of the incidents, the man picked ground-floor windows with a clear view of a woman inside.

He then allegedly used his phone or a flashlight to illuminate himself, exposed his genitals and performed an “indecent act.”

Police said in each instance, the man fled after being spotted by the victims.

The first incident happened on May 19 around 1 a.m. at Main and 15th Avenue. Then, a month later on June 19, two more incidents were reported, one around midnight at Quebec Street and 15th Avenue, followed by the second half and hour later at Main and 15th.

Police said a fourth incident was reported on July 15, again near Quebec Street and E 15th Avenue.

“We are asking residents in Mount Pleasant to take safety precautions and be on the lookout for suspicious behaviour. If you are outdoors after midnight, always carry a cell phone and walk with a group or at least one other person,” said Sgt. Jason Robillard in a media release.

“Consider closing your blinds at night and call 911 if you see suspicious behaviour.”

Investigators also believe there may be more incidents that weren’t reported.

A man with a similar description was spotted two hours after the May 19 incident facing a ground floor window near Knight Street and Kingsway and touching himself.

While the man in that case wasn’t using a flashlight and wasn’t in Mount Pleasant, police say they believe it may be related and are asking anyone else who saw similar incidents to contact them.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, five feet eight inches tall, of a medium-to-heavy build and with light-coloured hair on his legs. In each incident, he was wearing a hat or hoodie, pants or shorts, and a jacket and sweatshirt.

Police believe the suspect may live in the Mount Pleasant area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver police tip line at 604-717-0604, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
