Halifax police looking for driver in hit-and-run that sent cyclist to hospital

Police in Halifax are looking for the driver of an SUV involved in a collision with a cyclist early Tuesday morning.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the collision on Quinpool Road near Connaught Avenue at 6:40 a.m.

The bicycle and vehicle were both travelling eastbound on Quinpool Road when the vehicle struck the bicycle from behind.

Police say the driver initially stopped and spoke to the cyclist, but she left the scene “without providing aid or personal information.” The vehicle was last seen travelling southbound on Connaught Avenue.

The cyclist had to be taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. The injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

The vehicle was a dark green BMW SUV that appeared to be five to 10 years old. It had a Nova Scotia licence plate that may have began with FVP.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on the driver is asked to call police at 902-490-5016.
