Rick Zamperin: Can’t say that I’m surprised the Ticats lost in Regina

I must admit, I can’t say that I’m surprised.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats — fresh off two impressive victories over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos — let their fans down Thursday night.

Despite being on the cusp of their first three-game winning streak since 2015, boosting their record to 3-1 and extending their lead in the CFL’s East Division, the Ticats dropped the ball in Saskatchewan.

The Roughriders, alternating between their second- and third-string quarterbacks throughout the game, beat Hamilton 18-13 at Mosaic Stadium.

There were some highlights for Hamilton, most notably the defence, which played very well.

Cats QB Jeremiah Masoli threw for 333 yards to join Kent Austin and Sam Etcheverry as the only CFL players to eclipse 300 passing yards in nine consecutive games.

But Hamilton could not, and did not, score a touchdown in the entire game.

It seems — at least in recent memory — that just when we think the Tiger-Cats are going to turn the corner, or go on a long winning streak, they let us down.

Maybe our expectations are too high. Maybe this franchise is just destined to produce .500 ball clubs.

I don’t know what the magic formula is or why Hamilton has had trouble getting on a roll in the win column, I wish I did.

The worst part now is that we have to think about this loss for a couple of weeks because the Ticats are on their bye week.

I just hope the players are as frustrated as the fans.
