Heat warnings were issued across southern Manitoba Friday morning as humidex values will be close to or exceeding 40 Friday and Saturday.
The higher humidex values Friday will be around the West. For Winnipeg and the Red River Valley, it’s going to be an incredibly muggy start to the weekend.

Southern Manitoba can expect temperatures to climb into the mid 30s with relative humidity values climbing even higher.
Relative humidity (RH) is a way of expressing the amount of moisture in the air. The more moisture there is in the air, the more difficult it is for your body to cool down through sweating.
Here is a look at the future temperatures and relative humidity values from one weather model.
The temperatures alone are quite hot but may not break many long standing records. For instance, on July 7 in 1936, Winnipeg reached a high of 41.1 degrees Celsius.
However, take a look at how factoring in the humidex values makes for the hottest conditions yet this spring and summer.
According to this chart using some weather models, Winnipeg will be feeling like 45 or 46.
As of Thursday, the NAM weather model is showing the higher end of what humidex values could be. Regardless, get ready for an incredibly hot start to the weekend.

It is unlikely much relief is on the way.
While there is a chance for showers or thunderstorms Saturday, temperatures are still likely to stay hot through Sunday and into next week. Fortunately this is where it looks like the humidity will peak.
