The RCMP in central Alberta are looking for a man after a report that a teenage girl was sexually assaulted on July 1.
Police in Red Deer said officers were told about the incident the next day. The 14-year-old girl sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said.
Police said the two knew each other.
“RCMP will not issue more information on the incident in order to protect the privacy of the victim,” police said in a Thursday statement.
The suspect, Darrien Nepoose, lives in Red Deer, but police believe he may have travelled to Calgary. The 18-year-old is facing one count of aggravated sexual assault.
Nepoose is described as four feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 90 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Police say the public should not approach Nepoose if he is spotted, but are asked instead to call police immediately.
