Shephard was found guilty of first-degree murder and arson on May 8. The jury only needed about four hours for deliberations.

Tyler Noel and Devin Morningstar, both 20, were sentenced earlier this year for their roles in the death. Shephard was the last to be tried in connection with the case.

Defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux says it’s a tragedy and says he told the court Friday that four young lives have been ruined as the result of drugs and that lifestyle.

Lemieux expects there will be an appeal.
