Pavement buckles from heat in south Winnipeg

City crews are working on Scurfield Blvd. where the heat forced a section of pavement to heave then collapse. Global News

High temperatures caused a section of pavement on Scurfield Boulevard to buckle Tuesday night.

A City of Winnipeg spokesperson said concrete can expand when hot, and contract when cooled.

“In this instance the pavement didn’t have enough space to expand, so the concreted heaved at this location,” communications officer Ken Allen said in a statement.
