The body of a B.C. man missing since April 2017 has been found in Banff National Park.

RCMP said the body was discovered on April 25 by a hiker near Lake Minnewanka after the area had opened for the season.

The Alberta medical examiner confirmed through the use of dental records that the body was that of the missing man, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

The family of William “Willy” Lynskey confirmed in a Facebook statement Thursday that the remains found in Banff were his.

“The Lynskey family would like to advise the caring public that William “Willy” Lynskey was located as passed in the Banff region on April 25, 2018, and the search has ended. They wish to thank everyone for their overwhelming support during the last year and ask that they be allowed space at this time in order to grieve and heal. Everyone’s efforts were so important to the family. Thank you so much!”

RCMP said the cause of death remains unknown, but have ruled the death not suspicious.

The missing man’s family has been notified and the investigation continues, RCMP said.
