2018 Tony Awards nominations: ‘Mean Girls,’ ‘Spongebob SquarePants’ top the list

WATCH: 'Harry Potter', 'Frozen', and 'Spongebob Squarepants' lead the eclectic list of shows nominated for 2018 Tony Awards – May 1, 2018

The nominations for the 2018 Tony Awards were announced Tuesday morning at a ceremony held at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

Tony and Grammy Award winner, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Katharine McPhee, who is currently starring in the Tony-nominated musical Waitressrevealed the nominees for all 26 competitive categories, which honour the year’s best Broadway productions.

Mean Girls and Spongebob SquarePants: The Musical topped the list, receiving 12 nominations apiece, including nods for Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction in a Musical, and many more.

The awards ceremony will take place on June 10 at 8 p.m. ET, live from New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban will host the proceedings.
