Fire extensively damages Mayfair house

Investigators said the improper disposal of smoking material was the cause of a fire early Monday evening that left a Mayfair home extensively damaged.

The Saskatoon Fire Department said firefighters arrived at the three-storey home at 1427 Ave. C North at around 6:30 p.m. to find heavy flame coming from the rear of the house and dormers on the roof.

An exterior attack was started and then crews entered the home to continue battling the blaze while searching for anyone inside.

No one was found and it took firefighters 72 minutes to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at $450,000, including minor damage to two adjacent homes and a garage.
