Police have laid charges against a second teen in relation to a recent string of threats made against Waterloo Region high schools.
Waterloo Regional Police have arrested and charged a 15-year-old from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School after a threatening message discovered on Monday.

The message, which was found scribbled in a washroom, was much like the other seven discovered in recent weeks. It simply read “School Shooting.”
Police say the youth has been charged with uttering threats causing death or bodily harm, as well as an additional charge for mischief.

This is the second arrest made in relation to threatening messages. The first was made eight days ago, when a female student at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School in Cambridge was charged.
The Cambridge school saw a similar message scribbled on an outdoor storage unit that read “JHSS – School Shooting April 6th.” That student was also charged with uttering threats and mischief.

Several threats have been made at schools in the last few weeks, and most have similarly threatening shootings. Police are calling those “copycats” of the original threat. Two threats mentioned bombs instead of shootings.
In a release, the Waterloo Regional Police said that even though two arrests have been made, they will continue to investigate the other remaining threats very seriously and urge parents to talk to their children about making such statements.

They encourage parents to sit down and explain the implications and consequences that can come from such threats, including the possibility of suspension and expulsion from school or even a criminal record.
