RCMP recover stolen Ford Escape after carjacking northeast of Edmonton

A stolen white 2015 Ford Escape was recovered in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. early Wednesday morning after RCMP asked the public to keep an eye out for the vehicle on Tuesday.

In a news release, RCMP said the SUV was found “after being involved in a number of serious incidents yesterday [Tuesday] in Edmonton.”

RCMP said it worked with the the Edmonton Police Service on the case.

On Tuesday, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP asked the public to contact them if they saw a pair of suspects wanted in connection with a violent carjacking in Fort Saskatchewan on Tuesday morning.

Police said the suspects were believed to be “armed and dangerous.”

According to police, officers were called to a reported carjacking near a Tim Hortons restaurant on 88 Avenue just before 4:30 a.m. They said the victim had offered the two suspects a ride to a gas station after they told her their vehicle broke down near the town’s Walmart.

Police said once the victim had driven the suspects to their destination, she was threatened with a knife. The victim, a woman in her 50s, also suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident but police declined to say how. She was able to get away and the suspects, two males whose ages were not disclosed, left in the scene in the victim’s SUV.

The suspects were believed to have headed towards Edmonton, the RCMP said. Police were able to obtain video surveillance of one of the two suspects.

The Ford Escape had an Alberta licence plate number EMV 843.
