STRATFORD, Ont. – The province’s police watchdog says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision in Stratford, Ont., that left a woman with serious injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit says a Stratford police officer tried to stop a vehicle in the city at about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
It says the vehicle did not stop and, moments later, crashed into a tree.
The SIU says the driver fled the scene, but three passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.
It says a 21-year-old woman, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was seriously injured.
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
