Missing 29-year-old Hamilton woman found dead, man arrested: police

Hamilton police say a missing 29-year-old mother has been found dead and a man has been arrested.

Officers had been searching for Holly Hamilton after she was reported missing by her family on Monday. She was last seen on Sunday and family members said her disappearance was out of character. The homicide unit took over the investigation as officers said there was “reason to be concerned for her safety.”

Police said in an update Wednesday afternoon that Hamilton’s body was found inside her car, which was parked in the lower level of an apartment building parking garage near Centennial Parkway North and Barton Street East.

An unidentified man has been arrested in connection with Hamilton’s death.

Const. Jerome Stewart said the man is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, but he wouldn’t say if charges have been laid against the man.

Police previously said they were looking to locate the woman’s ex-boyfriend, who she is said to have seen recently. Investigators didn’t release his name and said at the time he wasn’t wanted in the case. Officers said they were interested in talking to him to clarify the circumstances of their meeting.

A planned search organized by Hamilton’s friends was cancelled after friends and residents learned of her death.

Police previously said Hamilton has a young daughter and worked with a cleaning service.

Friends and neighbours gathered during a vigil Wednesday evening to remember Hamilton.

Kelli Ruetch said she only knew Hamilton to see her, but said she and others will make sure the candles stay lit to honour the 29-year-old.

“There’s a little girl now who has lost her mother tragically. (She) needs to have a voice and this is our way of saying we will stand by,” Ruetch said.

Meanwhile, an update from police is scheduled to be released on Thursday.
