TORONTO – Fourteen Canadians were nominated in 14 categories at the 55th Grammy Awards – but only Drake took home a trophy.
The Toronto rapper’s Take Care earned his first ever Grammy during the non-televised ceremony for Best Rap Album.
“Thank you all! I am so happy,” tweeted Drake, who has been nominated 12 times since 2010.
But, Drake lost both Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song to Jay-Z and Kanye West.
Carly Rae Jepsen’s ubiquitous single “Call Me Maybe” lost to Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” in the Pop Vocal Performance category. The song, co-written by Jepsen, Tavish Crowe and Josh Ramsay, lost to “We Are Young” by fun.

Earlier, Ramsay – who is also lead singer of Marianas Trench – tweeted: “not expecting us to win tomorrow, but I’m feeling incredibly grateful to have made it this far. More about the journey than the destination.”
Alberta duo Tegan and Sara, who did not attend Sunday’s show in Los Angeles, lost Best Long Form Music Video.
“Congrats to @MumfordAndSons for winning in our category! So proud to have been nominated this year,” tweeted Tegan and Sara.
Windsor, Ont. native Tamia lost both R&B Album and R&B Song and Toronto singer Melanie Fiona, who won two Grammys last year, lost Traditional R&B Performance to Beyonce.
“My life is Blessed. I am Happy. Healthy. Loved. Gifted. I am a child of the Universe… Living in high respect and awe daily,” she tweeted before the show.
Other Canadians who failed to win Grammys are: Stratford, Ont. artist Loreena McKennitt (New Age Album); Toronto’s Howard Shore (Score Soundtrack for Visual Media); Toronto resident Deadmau5 (Dance/Electronica Album); and Win Butler & Régine Chassagne of Montreal’s Arcade Fire (Song Written for Visual Media).
Michael Bublé lost in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category to Paul McCartney.
American country singer Carrie Underwood, who won Country Solo Performance for “Blown Away,” gave a shout-out on stage to her Canadian husband, NHL player Mike Fisher.
On Saturday, the late Toronto pianist Glenn Gould was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
