Actor Woody Harrelson says a dinner party organized by now-President Donald Trump back in 2002 was so unbearable that he had to step out for a quick puff of marijuana to keep his wits about him.
The Texas-born thespian, known for his roles in such TV shows as Cheers and True Detective, made the revelation on Real Time with Bill Maher during an appearance to promote his new film LBJ, about another presidential figure, Lyndon B. Johnson.

Harrelson says he was invited to the New York shindig by Jesse Ventura, the professional wrestler-turned-politician who was reportedly being courted by Trump to join his ticket for the 2004 presidential primaries — for the Democratic Party.
“I went and it was brutal,” Harrelson recounted. “I never met a more narcissistic man. He talked about himself the whole time. You could see the standard he was going to bear from that.
“I had to walk out halfway through to smoke a joint just to, like, steel myself for the rest of it.”
Harrelson then confirmed that he gave up smoking marijuana a year and a half ago, but that didn’t stop Maher from sharing a photo of the actor inhaling from a bong while filming a 2003 sketch for the very first episode of Real Time.

Harrelson, who plays former U.S. president Johnson in LBJ, also said that while Johnson did have something of a foul mouth, he “wasn’t publicly vulgar like Trump.”
