Crews are keeping an eye on a large tree in Stanley Park that’s been burning for almost a full day. Officials first got word of the fire Thursday morning and they monitored it throughout the day.
There was a flare-up last night just after midnight.
The fire is in an old, 100-foot cedar tree located north of Beaver Lake in the park.

Assistant fire chief Martin Paulson says a plane passing over the park Thursday noticed smoke.
“Crews investigated and they found an old cedar tree, approximately 800 feet into the bush. It’s a 100-foot cedar tree, approximately six to eight feet wide, and there’s a fire burning up the middle of it, approximately 50, 60 feet up,” he said.
People are being told to avoid the area but the director of parks for the City of Vancouver says there is not much they can do.
The tree is not near any of the trails.
