An apartment building fire in Prince Albert, Sask., was caused by a child playing with a lighter.

The fire happened late in the afternoon on Oct. 3 in the 1400-block of 28 Street East.

It was deemed suspicious and Prince Albert police launched an investigation.

Investigators determined an 11-year-old boy was playing with a lighter in a storage room when the flames got out of control and engulfed the building.

No charges will be laid as the youth is under the age of 12 and cannot be charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police said they have been in contact with the boy’s family.
