The Peterborough Police Service Thursday released images of seven people they wish to speak with following a rally in downtown Peterborough Sept. 30.
Hundreds gathered in Confederation Square to counter what was being billed as an “anti-immigration” rally.
At the time, the organizers of the “Solidarity Weekend” said they were hoping for a peaceful demonstration to offset what the anti-immigration rally organizers promised would be a large protest led by the Canadian Nationalist Front against the government’s immigration laws.
In fact, the CNF’s rally never took place, but in the counter-protest, tensions boiled over for about 10 minutes. Police say punches were thrown when a man wearing a Nazi T-shirt arrived in the park. Protesters also blocked a police cruiser when an arrest was made. Some of the protesters covered their faces, concealing their identities.
