Highway 15 North in Laval was closed Sunday morning, following a crash involving three vehicles, including a tanker truck.

According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay, the crash happened at around 7:45 a.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that a vehicle heading south on Highway 15 may have crossed over into the northbound lane for unknown reasons, hitting another car, which then crashed into the tanker truck.

“Maybe the driver fell asleep, or did a U-turn,” Tremblay said, adding that collision experts were at the scene to investigate.

Three people were taken to hospital,  including one who suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tanker truck was not injured.

Tremblay said Urgence-Environnement was also at the scene to clean up spilled diesel on the roadway.

Tremblay specified the leak was from the cab of the  truck and not the tanker.

Police are advising motorists to avoid Highway 15 in both directions.

The northbound section of the highway is closed and traffic is being detoured onto the service road.

The southbound lanes remain open, but Tremblay said traffic was heavy due to curious drivers slowing down to look.

Motorists are being asked to take Highway 13 South as an alternative.

As of 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, two of four northbound lanes had been re-opened to traffic.
