It's a senseless act that's prompted a police investigation. Monday a kitten was discovered inside a dumpster behind a Trenton apartment building. As Morganne Campbell reports, the kitten was doubled bagged and discarded like trash – Sep 29, 2017

Quinte West OPP is investigating after a six-week-old kitten was found abandoned and discarded like trash in a dumpster behind a Trenton apartment building.

A tenant who lives in the Sidney Street building made the disturbing discovery Monday morning and notified a not-for-profit animal rescue group called Fix ‘Fur” Life.

The organization’s president says the kitten was distressed.

“She was traumatized crying out.  She couldn’t have been there very long because it was 30-degrees out that day. You can imagine how hot that is. She wouldn’t have survived that long,” said Darlene Quinsey.

The kitten was treated by a veterinarian at an animal hospital in Belleville and showed signs of mistreatment.

“She was really dehydrated, she had fleas and she was panicked. She also has a scar on her neck from a parasite that goes in and then matures and burrows its way out. So she was pretty distressed,” said Dr. Kristina Bennett, from Foster Park Pet Hospital.

The kitten is on the road to recovery and there’s a lineup of people who want to give her a forever home.

“To see a small kitten like this that was clearly traumatized, the minute they sense that someone wants to help them and love them they automatically come out of their shell,” said Quinsey.

Anyone with any information is being asked to call police or the SPCA.
