Ed Janiszewski has been the mayor of Dollard-des-Ormeaux (DDO) in Montreal’s West Island, for 33 years.

Now 83-years-old, he said he still feels like he has work to do.
“I’m still full of energy and full of ideas, so I want to keep going,” he said Monday, as he announced he would be seeking a 10th term.
Janiszewski was first elected mayor of DDO in 1984.

He lists the construction of the library and community center among some of his best accomplishments.
He considered retiring, but said his colleagues wouldn’t let him.

“The majority of my council members asked me to run again,” he said, as he stood outside DDO City Hall.
“If we had a different candidate I can trust and respect I might retire, but that’s not the case.”
Among his opponents is real estate agent Raman Chopra, who thinks DDO needs a refresh.
“The technology at city hall is outdated. All the technology is outdated, and I think it needs to be renewed. A new look, a new dynamic look for 2017,” he told Global News.

Janiszewski believes his formula will continue to get results.
“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I’ve had the trust of the electors. Everyone over 35 is encouraging me to run again,” he said.
