A well-known name to WWE fans will be coming to London next month.

Mick Foley has been added to the lineup for the London Comic Con after wrestling legend Ric Flair suffered health issues. Flair is now listed as “postponed” on the Comic Con website.

Foley himself only just got out of the hospital on Tuesday after having his right knee replaced. He explained to AM980’s brother station, FM96, how the injury came about.

“It would be the moment I decided not wearing knee pads for the last three years of my career was a good idea,” Foley chuckled.

“I had a very physical style, I was always hitting the ground hard, the concrete hard. When the cameras are on, even when the cameras aren’t on, you just have the crowd kind of anesthetizing you. It didn’t seem like that bad of an idea. Then it was like one day it all caught up with me.”

Foley reminisced about his wrestling days, explaining that his “Mr. Socko” finishing move was inspired by a real-life nerve hold created by the man that the TV show, and later the movie, The Fugitive was based on.

“It just made sense to put the sock on the claw, on the claw hand. I no longer cared that people didn’t think it was a nerve hold if they just thought ‘he’s shoving that sock down his throat!’ I’ve had to apologize to so many younger brothers over the years.”

In addition to his time as a fixture on the WWE circuit, Foley has written four memoirs, four children’s books, and two novels.

His latest book, Saint Mick, comes out a day after the London Comic Con, which goes Oct. 13-15 at the Western Fair District.
