Eighteen-year-old man dies after targeted Abbotsford shooting

Sat, Aug 5: Police in the Fraser Valley are telling parents to warn their children about the dangers of gang life. This comes after an 18-year-old was gunned down and killed as he drove through a busy Abbotsford neighbourhood, in the middle of the afternoon. Jill Bennett reports – Aug 5, 2017

One man is dead after a shooting Friday afternoon in Abbotsford.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to the scene, and has taken over the investigation.

Abbotsford Police got the call shortly before 3:30 p.m. to the Clearbrook commercial area near George Ferguson Way and Oriole Crescent.

When police arrived, they found a crashed Chrysler 300 and an 18-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was flown to hospital but died of his injuries.

A witness told Global News he saw a white car lose control, hit the curb and end up going through the fence of a residential building.

The victim then got out of the car before collapsing, according to the witness. He was then taken away in an ambulance.

The shooter remains at large at this hour, and police have not provided a description.

Police say “numerous APD resources have been deployed into the area to search for the suspect.”

Investigators believe the attack to be targeted.
