Highway 97 at Monte Lake between Kamloops and Vernon reopened to pilot car guided traffic following four fires at the south end of the lake Monday afternoon.
RCMP had manned roadblocks on the route until about 9 p.m. while B.C. Wildfire crews doused hot spots.
The B.C. Wildfire Service quickly brought four new human caused wildfires beside the highway under control, including one that grew to two hectares.
RCMP said the fires are under investigation by the B.C. Wildfire Service.
Sgt. Justin Thiessen said trees and underbrush were involved in the fires along Highway 97.
Monte Lake Resort owner Dennis Smith told Global News the fire was hit hard from the air and by crews on the ground.
By 7 p.m., Smith said most of the flames were out.
The collection of fires near the roadway were strange, said Smith, speculating a dragging muffler may have been to blame.
Earlier Monday, the Martin Mountain fire at the north end of Monte Lake was deemed fully contained and the remaining evacuees were being given the green light to go home.
The Martin Mountain fire broke out last Wednesday between Vernon and Kamloops.
It forced the evacuation of 58 properties.
The 150 hectare blaze destroyed one home.
The fire is under control and still under investigation.
