A driver is now facing impaired driving charges after a bizarre incident at the Langdale ferry terminal last Saturday.

Sunshine Coast RCMP say at approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 24 staff from BC Ferries called to report a Chevy Blazer SUV had smashed through the locked security gates and was speeding toward the closed ferry terminal.

The Blazer then drove through several other barriers and gates to the upper loading deck and launched off the raised ramp in an attempt to board the upper car deck of the docked Queen of Surrey.

The driver landed on the upper deck, crashing the front of the car straight down. Then, apparently uninjured, police say he got out of the vehicle and off the ferry where he then attempted to steal two staff vehicles parked in the terminal parking lot.

Staff were able to provide a description of the man to police who were now on scene.
