The Saskatoon Blades are back in the driver’s seat in the Western Hockey League‘s Eastern Conference wild card race.
After beating the Red Deer Rebels in overtime on Tuesday, the Blades followed up with a 6-2 thumping of the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday.

The win moved the Blades three points clear of the Hitmen for the final playoff spot.

With five games left on the schedule, the team knows there is still work to be done in order to secure their first post-season berth in four years.
Blades head coach Dean Brockman said they have to remain focused and temper expectations.
“We still know that we have work ahead of us,” Brockman said.
“We haven’t accomplished anything yet. We’ve got to find a way to win more games.”

Blades forward Chase Wouters said the team needs to keep pushing and battling.
“We all know that we still have a job to do and it’s not over at all yet, by any means,” Wouters said.
The Blades are back in action on Friday when the Swift Current Broncos travel to Saskatoon in the first game of a home-and-home series.
