Oprah Winfrey says she’s rethinking a run for the U.S. presidency in the wake of Donald Trump’s election.
In an interview Tuesday with David Rubenstein on Bloomberg TV, Winfrey reveals that, before Trump’s election, she thought she didn’t have the appropriate government experience to run the country. Now, the outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter is rethinking her decision.
“I never considered the question,” she says, after a pause, citing her lack of political experience. But now that Trump has assumed the presidency despite never having held a position in public office, Winfrey has realized she just might have what it takes.
“Because it’s clear that you don’t need government experience to be the president of the United States,” Rubenstein says to laughter and applause from the audience.
“I thought, Oh gee, I don’t have the experience. I don’t know enough,” she says. “And now I’m thinking, Oh…”
